In the name of squeezing this post in under the wire, I picked a card and random from my deck. This will be the first reading I’m doing with this card, so I’m curious to see where it’ll go!
Who are you?
I am the one who is alone. I am the one who stands by myself. I am the one who looks through a window into a world I don’t know. I am the one who stares into the future. I am the one who wonders who I am, why I’m here, and what values lies in solitude. I am the one who may be alone but is always looking ahead to see what comes next.
What do you want/need from me?
I need you to stand strong when you are alone, be it literally or figuratively. I need you to remember that you are more than enough all by yourself. I need you to remember that even when you seem most solitary, you are never truly alone. I want you to be defiant and worthy of the time you spend by yourself. I want you to understand that solitude is a blessing and should be received as one.
What do you have to give me?
I give you introspection. I give you a greater sense of yourself. I give you the chance to take a break, to rest. I give you the opportunity to look at life without others’ input—with your thoughts and reflections alone. I offer you the chance to see things from a different perspective because you are by yourself. No one else has the same viewpoint that you do, and that view is to be respected deeply.
Is there anything else you’d like to say to me today?
Solitude is a gift, just as much as companionship is a gift. They are two sides of the same coin. Being alone may not always be comfortable, but it is always a chance to look inside and grow. Take advantage of the silences and solitudes in your life to reflect on where you are, where you’ve come from, and what you’ve learned along the way. Don’t assume you know what’s behind the window curtain; you may be happier on the outside. Every opportunity in life is a gift, not just the ones that look like Christmas morning.
